An Expanded Sensitivity Study of Simulated Storm Life Span to Ventilation Parameterization in a Cloud Resolving Model

چکیده
We performed a sensitivity study on the life span of numerically simulated storm using parameterization ventilation coefficient. This is an expanded sequel to our previous study, where effect precipitation particles (snow, rain, and hail) was either halved or doubled as whole. In this we tested coefficient for different compared that with results. present changed in two scenarios: (1) only rain category changed; (2) snow hail categories were changed. The results show these scenarios lead evolution paths storm. general, reducing leads quick dissipation, whereas enhancing snow/hail development multicellular storms. An analysis physical mechanisms leading such provided. shows yet another example how change cloud’s microphysical can profound its larger-scale dynamical process.

Several studies have examined the sensitivity of fronts and cyclones to model physics over the ocean or flat terrain in mesoscale models (e.g., Zhang et al. 1999). Nonetheless, fewer studies have examined the sensitivity of fronts and cyclones over complex terrain to model physics in the WRF model at very high resolution. Physics parameterizations in the WRF model, including multiple choices of...

. introduction tropical cyclones (tcs), all over the world, are recognized as the most common and most devastating of all the natural disasters. nearly 80–90 tcs occur around the globe that about 40–50 attain intensity of 33 m/s (frank and george, 2007). approximately 7% of tcs originate in north of indian ocean and nearly 2% in arabian sea (wmo report, 2008). the prediction of tc track has bee...
متن کاملExplicit simulations of aerosol physics in a cloud-resolving model: a sensitivity study based on an observed convective cloud
The role of convection in introducing aerosols and promoting the formation of new particles to the upper troposphere has been examined using a cloud-resolving model coupled with an interactive explicit aerosol module. A baseline simulation suggests good agreement in the upper troposphere between modeled and observed results including concentrations of aerosols in different size ranges, mole fra...
